Not waterproof. Nice fit but fails it's prime task

Two hour walk in light but constant rain left me with wet arms and shoulders, not impressed. Decathlon products are normally brilliant but this fails at the task.

Low quality

The jacket doesn’t allow any transpiration , it’s like wearing a plastic bag Zippers are very bad quality It doesn’t offer any protection from cold temperature

Great buy

keep it clean and it will work great.

So glad I went for it

This is a great waterproof coat with some really good design features like the loads of pockets. The under arm zippers for ventilation and the stretchy fabric. I usually have size large in coats unless they are from a designer name so ordered large but had to return nd get the XL. I’ve tested it whilst walking the dog in rain and even though we had a couple of big downpours the coat kept me dry. It’s not the warmest coat in the world but that’s exactly what I wanted I like to be in control by wearing layers so I can be warm or cool in the same coat.

Do not buy jacket

Bought this jacket specifically so I could use in rain. 2 days after buying I went out hiking in the rain wearing the jacket. Very disappointed with it. After finishing hike and jacket took off the chest pocket inside were wet as well as the inside of the jacket. My coat under the jacket was also wet as was my spare gloves inside my second coat. The jacket is not fit for purpose and I will be taking it back to my local store for refund.

Nice Jacket but a crucial flaw

I bought this jacket online. It is really nice and light and looks well made, until you realise that as other people have said that the right hand pocket is not waterproof, this is a design flaw that should have been spotted in testing. To test if the zip was waterproof, I applied a sprinkling of water over the pocket at home to test before returning it. Unfortunately the zips used are not waterproof over the pocket and there is no waterproof barrier between you and the pocket so you will get wet in heavy downpours. This seems like a really silly design flaw as the rest of the jacket is really nicely made and would have been great. Decathlon - there is a really simple fix to this - use waterproof zips on the pockets and put a waterproof membrane behind the chest pockets. You could also put the zips horizontally under the flaps that are already there instead of them being vertical. That would sort the issue out and make it a great jacket.

This was the best jacket I find before, I love the color, the size is perfect and high quality

Right Chest Pocket Leaks

I have been buying Quechua products for many years, and I have always found their quality and price to be very good. So, I was disappointed when the right chest pocket of this jacket started to leak. There is no waterproof material between the inside of this pocket and the wearer, and the zipper on this pocket is not the same waterproof zipper that is found under the arms and on the lower pockets. I recommend Quechua replace the right chest zipper with the type that is under the arms, or use waterproof fabric to line the pocket.

Scotland Rain test - Fail

Used this jacket for a trip up Ben Nevis, the clouds and rain moved in, alas this jacket is no match for a Scottish May rainy day on Ben Nevis. It quickly wetted out and stopped performing, within the first hour. This then also rendered its breathability useless. In comparison I was also wearing my Sprayway Goretex over trousers, which stayed dry.

Good jacket, but consider alternatives...

Well… where to start. For a jacket that promised top delivery, it did not impress. I think I was expecting more. It's not that it's a bad jacket, just that I was expecting more. Let's start with the zippers under the arms - they are a really nice feature. Really nice. However, delivery is poor. Those zips are stiff and hard, and often, I couldn't operate them with one hand only. This was disappointing, as it required either removing my backpack to close the zippers with both hands, or asking the walking partner to give me an extra hand, which is not practical. Also, because of weather conditions changing, I often had to either open the zips or close them, and as they were quite stiff, again it just wasn’t practical. One other thing: if the jacket is fully closed, it warms up quite easily, so though it is protecting from rain, I am warming up inside, and if I don’t get wet from rain, I get wet from sweat. Opening the zips under the arm (which, again, and to me, is a very nice feature) allows for some water to enter inside the jacket. The elastic band on the hood and behind the head was difficult to operate single handedly. I often had to ask my walking partner to do it for me. It is quite inconvenient when we are walking at different paces. Granted, the day I mostly used the jacket, it was raining throughout the day. Not intense rain, but just constant rain. Nonetheless, I believe I was left with shoulders wet, and at certain stages, I felt my arms were also wet (but this is tricky to say, as this was close to the parts that benefited from having the zippers opened earlier… but having closed it, the rain that had infiltrated earlier will remain there). And though the rain was constant, the wind was shifting often, which made it difficult and actually got the jacket tested to the limit. I got my shoulders wet, and this was actually not meant to happen, as these were areas away from the zippers and from the neck area. Maybe the wet straps from the backpack I was carrying, which were wet, contributed for it, but again, it is difficult to say that I was buying a jacket and not expecting to carry a backpack… Design wise, it could be more attractive. I think that Decathlon is lacking on minimalistic designs or fashion. The color patterns are not always great. But I bought the jacket mainly for rain protection, not for a fashion statement… So to conclude: I think I would be equally well served with a cheaper but still waterproof jacket, if I am going to end up being wet anyway. I am walking for long hours, if I don’t get wet from rain, I would get wet from sweat from having the jacket closed, and if I am to open the zippers under the arms to cool a little, I would get wet from that, so yeah, a cheaper jacket would probably give a similar delivery at the end of the day :/ This was a jacket put to proof hiking in the highlands for several days.

No good if you are short and stocky.

The cut is maybe good for a Tall slim person with wide shoulders in a warm country, but if you are shorter, more stocky and need to wear a fleece or a down jacket underneath and some layers , I dont think you will find it very generous. The Arms are long but the body is short. Its waterproof for about an hour, the stretch fabric softshell material leaks eventually. Pockets are too tight to be of any use. Not advisable for use in Northern Europe. Tested in Storm Callum.

Main component

3-layer component with membrane

Component with membrane or coating

- A coating is like a kind of paint applied to the inside of the fabric that makes the component waterproof while remaining breathable. It is often less costly than a membrane, and requires a lining for protection.- The membrane is a kind of very thin plastic film (polyurethane) that makes the component waterproof while remaining breathable. It has the advantage of being more flexible, lighter, more durable and often more breathable than a coating.

Jacket construction with membrane

- 3 layers: The membrane is glued between the outer fabric and the inner fabric. Used for resistant and high-performance jackets- 2.5 layers: The membrane is glued under the outer fabric and protected by a thin film on the inside. Used for lightweight jackets.- 2 layers: the membrane is glued only to the outer fabric; the inner protective lining is free. Used for comfortable jackets

Component waterproofing

The resistance of a fabric to water pressure is expressed in terms of the height in mm of a water column (test based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. A component with a 15,000 mm waterproof rating is therefore resistant to the pressure exerted by a 15,000 mm column of water (which roughly corresponds to a 4-hour thunderstorm).

Water resistance of the jacket

This garment has been validated in a shower test under 450 L/m²/hour of water for 4 hours. This test reproduces the average conditions of a mountain storm. For the most curious, all the details are here:

Component breathability

To find out whether a fabric is breathable, we test its evaporative resistance or RET (based on the ISO 11092 standard). The lower the fabric's resistance, the more water vapour generated by physical activity can escape and the higher the fabric's breathability. For example:RET < 3 = extremely breathable fabricRET ≤ 6 very breathable fabricRET ≤ 12= breathable fabricRET ≤ 20 = little or no breathability

Breathability of the jacket

In addition to the breathability of the fabrics used, Quechua develops technical solutions (zips, air vents, mesh, etc.) to improve the overall ventilation of all its jackets and over-trousers designed for use on long hikes (Forclaz, Bionnassay and Helium lines). These ventilation systems regulate the temperature inside the garment while also helping to eliminate the perspiration generated by the body during physical activity.

How to restore the water-repellent properties?

The water repellent property of a fabric is its capacity to make water run off its surface without absorbing it to prevent the material from soaking up water. The water repellent property is obtained by applying a treatment to the outer surface. This treatment needs to be restored during the lifetime of the garment (we recommend every 3 washes). All the details you need to restore the water repellent properties:
